Not every wisdom tooth needs removing. The decision depends on an exam, X-rays, the tooth’s position, your symptoms and the health of nearby teeth.
Common reasons for removal
- Repeated gum infection around the tooth.
- Decay that cannot be treated.
- Damage to the neighbouring tooth.
- A cyst around the tooth.
How it is assessed
Your dentist examines the tooth and orders suitable imaging. A CBCT scan may help when the tooth is close to a nerve.
After removal
Pain and swelling for a few days are common. Follow your dentist’s instructions, and contact the clinic if pain worsens, you develop a fever, bleeding will not stop, or numbness does not fade.
Cost depends on how complex the case is, and your dentist will confirm it after the exam.
