What actually changes the price of dental treatment

Five factors explain almost every price variation patients see between clinics — even for the "same" procedure name.

  1. Materials. A zirconia crown made on a Planmeca PlanMill 30 S costs more than a basic PFM — but lasts 2-3× longer and looks more natural. An E-max veneer costs more than a composite veneer — but holds shape and color far better. Implant brand matters: Straumann/Nobel cost more than generic, with documented 20-year studies.
  2. Technology. A microscope-assisted root canal at AQUA has the same price as a standard root canal at most clinics — but the success rate is 90%+ vs 70-80%. Digital smile design with the Romexis platform shows your final result before any drilling. CBCT-guided implants reduce surgical time and complications. These technologies cost the clinic significantly to acquire and maintain.
  3. Specialist credentials. A general dentist may charge less for orthodontics or implants than a board-certified specialist. The case complexity that can be handled, the long-term success rate, and the management of complications differ measurably. AQUA cases are led by consultants with American Board (ABO/ABE/ABDPH/AAE) credentials — a baseline patients shouldn't have to verify themselves.
  4. Treatment duration. A 14-month Invisalign case costs less than a 22-month Invisalign case — same product, more aligners. A complex implant requiring bone grafting + 6 months healing + final crown takes 4× the chair time of a simple single implant. Time is the real cost driver in many treatments.
  5. Maintenance and follow-up. AQUA orthodontic packages include lifetime retainer replacement guidance + an annual check. Implant packages include peri-implant maintenance for the first year. Veneer packages include annual polishing. Discount clinics often charge per-visit for maintenance, which adds up over the lifetime of the treatment.

How to use these price ranges

Three rules of thumb for how to interpret the ranges in this guide:

Insurance reimbursement in Saudi Arabia

AQUA does not bill insurance directly. Instead, we prepare full documentation (medical report, photographs, X-rays, treatment plan, fee receipt) so patients can submit reimbursement claims to their own insurer. Most major Saudi insurers reimburse 30-80% of dental treatment depending on the procedure category and policy tier.

Procedure categoryTypical reimbursement (Bupa, Tawuniya, MedGulf, MedNet, Allianz)
Routine cleaning, fillings, X-rays70-100%
Root canal therapy60-80%
Crowns and bridges40-70%
Children's & teen orthodontics50-80%
Adult orthodontics (often classified cosmetic)30-50%
Veneers / cosmetic dentistry0-20% (rare)
Dental implants30-70% (varies)
Whitening0% (cosmetic)

Always check your specific policy before treatment. AQUA reception staff can help you understand what your policy likely covers — but the final reimbursement decision belongs to your insurer.
